Smoke Free Shopping

Smoke Free Shopping

MetroCentre is a No Smoking Centre and the malls have been smoke free since January 2004.

The introduction of the national smoking ban on 1st July 2007 now means that smoking is not permitted in any stores, staff areas or restaurants.

Working in conjunction with Gateshead Council, all shops, stores, leisure attractions and restaurants at MetroCentre have been issued with guidelines and advice concerning the new laws banning smoking in all enclosed public places and workplaces in England.

As part of the new legislation all of the Centre’s multi-storey car parks are smoke free.

Since the Centre’s malls went smoke free in 2004 excellent feedback from shoppers has been received.

Outside the Centre smoking shelters are located within external car parks for shoppers and service yards for staff. Information on designated smoking areas is available from the Centre’s Customer Services Desks.
