A new outdoor play area has opened at Metrocentre as part of the new Metrocentre Qube, providing hours of free play time fun for children this summer.
Located next to the main entrance to Metrocentre Qube, in the yellow mall, the play area is designed to offer challenging and interactive play for children aged 3 to 10 years old.
The new £150,000 development features lots of interactive activities to keep children entertained including a wheelchair carousel, dance chimes, climbing wall, fireman's pole and suspension bridge.
Children from Cedars School Sports College of Low Fell, Gateshead, officially opened the new play area at Metrocentre this week, and were the first to play on the new equipment.
They were joined at the opening by the Metrocentre's very own MetroGnomes, who joined the children at play.
The pupils were invited to open the play area after winning a special project set by Metrocentre. The drawing competition asked children to create a picture of someone special to them and write a few words about why they are so special.
The children's winning project was on display at the opening of the play area.
Metrocentre General Manager, Barry Turnbull, presented the school with their £250 prize before cutting the ribbon, and officially opening the new play area.
Margaret Smith, Head Teacher at Cedars School said "We were delighted to be invited to open the play area. The children had a fantastic day and it was wonderful to see their winning project on display".
