Cafe Rouge

Cafe Rouge

Café Rouge, in The Qube, is a delightful restaurant offering shoppers a culinary treat.

On arrival to the restaurant we were promptly greeted and shown to our table. The restaurant offers two choices of dining; a pavement café style on the mall or a more formal Bistro setting inside. We were seated inside and enjoyed the typical French décor with a relaxed atmosphere.

Once seated we were offered the menu which includes an array of French classics and house specials to suit all taste buds.

The starters arrived promptly and we enjoyed the Fritots De Camembert and the House Special of Spinach and Watercress Soup. The Camembert consisted of three mini deep fried Camembert which were perfectly cooked and complemented by the red current and cranberry sauce. The soup was delicate and delicious and was accompanied by a crusty warm baguette.

For main course we opted for the Regional Speciality of Poulet Breton and Beouf Bourginon in a red wine sauce, green beens and Dauphinoise potatoes. The Poulet Breton was classic comfort food, which consisted of strips of chicken breast, leeks and mushrooms in a subtle cream sauce served with rice. The beef was and a delight to eat. The dishes were ample without extra vegetables, but if you have a larger appetite, there are plenty tempting side dishes.

Traditional French desserts Crème Brulee - vanilla seeds and double cream and Tarte Tatin - caramelised French apple tart with vanilla ice cream made the whole eating experience complete and satisfied our taste buds no end.

The staff were friendly and attentive and were kept busy serving large parties, families and serious shoppers wanting a relaxing atmosphere to have a quick bite to eat and a refreshing glass of wine or two!

The two-course meal cost just over £18 per head which in our opinion was well worth it for the quality of the food on offer. If however you are looking for even better value the Prix Fixe menu might entice you. Available everyday 12pm - 5pm, Monday to Friday, two courses are £8.50 while three will only cost you £10.50. Bon Apetit!
