Chiquitos opens for lunch and stays open til late into the evening. We decided high noon was an appropriate time to take a break from the office and head down to the Mexican style bar and restaurant!
Looking forward to our lunch we settled into our seats and although tempted by the tantalizing cocktail menu we both ordered a soft drink with free re-fills available.
After perusing the enticing menu we eventually arrived at our decision and our friendly waitress took our order before we sat back to take in our surroundings.
Chiquito’s interior is a subtle tribute to Mexico, offering a relaxed and comfortable dining environment. The bar area is inviting and appears an ideal place to enjoy after work drinks with colleagues or post cinema cocktails with friends.
Our starters, Fiesta Nachos and Chiquito’s Famous Chilli Poppers, soon arrived. Bursting with flavour, the breaded jalapeño chillies were perfectly filled with cream cheese and served with a sweet jalapeño jelly while the nachos were delicious, adequately topped with melted cheese, jalapeños and enchilada sauce and accompanied by salsa, sour cream and a guacamole dip.
For mains we both selected classic Mexican dishes, my companion choosing Enchiladas while I opted for Tacos.
The Enchiladas comprised three hand rolled corn tortillas filled with tender chicken, topped with spicy sauce and Monterey Jack cheese, all baked to perfection in the oven. While the Tacos, served on a platter, included four crunchy corn shells ready to be filled with the delicious chilli beef.
Many of the traditional Mexican dishes, including those we selected, are served with Mexican style rice and fresh Pico de Gallo – a traditional salsa made from chopped tomatoes, onions and chillies.
Following our ample sized two courses we were invited to progress on to dessert and despite being perfectly full we simply could not resist trying something from the mouth-watering menu.
The dessert, Fried Ice Cream, despite sounding unusual, was divine. It was made up of vanilla ice cream rolled in cinnamon and golden flakes of corn and then deep fried and served with sticky honey and whipped cream. This delicious dessert finished off a delightful meal and we will certainly be back for more.
Our three course meal including drinks, although we did share a dessert, came to a total of £40.75 which is good value for a delicious authentic Mexican meal.
For those on more of a budget, the restaurant offers a lunchtime meal deal which is hard to pass up. A selection of main courses including Chilli Con Carne, Fiesta Wraps and more are only £5.45 or for an extra £1 you can select a starter as well.
